Feminist Rocker

whoneedsfeminism:

I need feminism because my best friend wouldn’t cry when his dog died because he was afraid people would make fun of him.

It is healthy to cry, when you’re sad - and I think it’s cool when men aren’t ashamed to cry. Honestly, if men weren’t supposed to cry - then they wouldn’t have tear ducts.

I need feminism because…

whoneedsfeminism:

I shouldn’t be told I’m anti-feminist just because I don’t like to play sports, and wear dresses and bows in my hair. I am who I am. I’m not giving in to gender stereotypes, I’m just doing what makes me happy!

Yay for feminism! Nay for prescriptive feminism!

I need feminism

whoneedsfeminism:

…because children shouldn’t be raised to either good men or good women, but good people.

Right on! *thumbs up*

I’m male and…

whoneedsfeminism:

I need feminism because I have a lot of women in my life. I want my girlfriend, mother, sister, step-sister, cousin, friends, and co-workers to live life with the opportunity to be whoever and do whatever they want without fear of harassment, discrimination, or judgment.

AND I need feminism because am just as constrained by gender norms as women are.

I agree! The patriarchy does hurt men, too.

I need feminism…

whoneedsfeminism:

because at times I’m just completely ashamed to be a man. I see what men do to women and how they think of them as unimportant beings undeserving of their own opinions and independence and self-determination, and I feel so horrible and guilty.

Thank you! You’re awesome! :)

But you shouldn’t feel ashamed of what you are. You do recognize your privilege, and that’s good.

whoneedsfeminism:

I need feminism because I still see posts like this on my Facebook wall.
And it gets exhausting when sometimes you’re the only one who tries to tell them how offensive posts like that actually are, but no one really takes you seriously.

Not to sound like a prescriptive feminist, but it really does bother me when even women find sexist jokes to be funny.

We have a winner for most incongruous use of smileys! :)

only in the Untied States, ladies and gents!

Well, it’s a good thing that the Untied States doesn’t exist.

Okay, to be fair, feminism absolutely has a history of erasing women of color and trans* people. I am a feminist, and the movement has gotten better since the second wave, but we have to own that shit, not pretend it never happened and is not a problem anymore.

Word, but i think it’s more important to look for ways we can hear their voices and move forward. I recommend genderbitch tumblr for anyone who’s interested.

Agreed!

BECAUSE BEING A STEREOTYPICAL MAN IS WAY BETTER THAN BEING A STEREOTYPICAL WOMAN, AMIRITE?

Y’know, it’s one thing to rebel against established gender roles - but when you act like it makes you better than other women, that’s not feminism. That’s femmephobia and internalized misogyny.

Color me shocked that this sophomoric nonsense was also a delightful word salad!

I don’t like pop music, either - but there is never a good reason to use a homophobic slur!
